I agree with Crosby. I think the MVP should go to the player who's team would suffer the most if he were not playing. That's easily the Penguins and Crosby. In addition to being their top point getter, he also leads the team in +/-.
I believe the only other player that can make the same claim is Heatley in Ottawa - and he's in a 3-way tie for the team lead in +/-.

Sidney Crosby should definetely win. He's leading the league by more then 10 points right now and played 5 less games.
If there was no Crosby (oh what would we do..) then it'd be a close call between Martin St. Louis, Ovechkin and Savard. I would never have guessed Savard would be up there at the beginning of the year.

I happen to agree with the choice of Roberto Luongo, though I think one should not overlook some of the "unsung heroes" of the league. I mean, Daniel Briere is having a colossal season as are the Buffalo Sabres yet I have not read his name anywhere. The Atlanta Thrashers are surprising everyone as well, and I see no Thrasher names on the list.
Why do I not think Sidney Crosby should win? I find it hard to support a great player from a mediocre team (though if they make the playoffs, that is a different story).
So, to summarize I would choose:
1) Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks
2) Daniel Briere, Buffalo Sabres
3) Kere Lehtenen, Atlanta Thrashers

Sidney Crosby.
A) For the goal scoring.
B) For saving a franchise.
C) For giving the NHL another marketable superstar in the same vein as a Gretzky or Lemieux

I will say Crosby and/or Nick Lidstrom. Lidstrom has been a brick wall on defense for years now regardless of how well the Wings do, and he's doing it again this year (#1 in +/-). And the reason for Crosby, also obvious. If you think he's good now, just imagine how sick he'll be in 4-5 years when he's in his mid-20s.

While those two are really good players, I think they're still a bit young and inexperienced to get MVP. I think there are a bunch of underrated players who could get MVP like Selanne (having an amazing season), Kariya (highest scorer on the best team in the league). It could also go to a few goalies like Brodeur (even though I hate Brodeur as a goalie), Hasek (He's old but he's doin ok), and Giguere (underrated). Then of course theres the names everyone will be thinking of like St. Louis, Lecavelier, Hossa, Heatley, etc.

Crosby will win. Ovechkin can not even be put into this conversation until he gets his team into the playoffs.

This year. Brodeur. He has gotten the devils out of some tight spots. Teemu Selanne is making a good case too.
