I live in the US and wish to call him. I do not have a home phone only my cell phones. I have Verizon and Cingular. Would prefer to use the Verizon for now.

You can call other countries with Verizon but you'll probably need to call *611 from your cell phone first and ask customer service to add international dialing ability to your service. It doesn't cost any extra monthly fees to add the ability but remember it is expensive to call other countries and will use your minutes as well. Ask the per minute rate for the country you are calling while you have Verizon rep on the phone so there are no huge surprises later on.
