Ok, heres the deal.
I own 2 swordtail, one male one female(I have two females but one got a cut somehow and developed a baterial infection)
They are in a ten gallon tank
I am going to get a 55 gallon, but I dont have enoguh money right now nad the are growing quickly
So heres the plan, tell me if its ok
Get a somewhat large rubbermaid, Add a few plastic plants. Have sand as substrate(pool sand, yes I know this is ok in aquariums dont tell me otherwise) Put on a filter for a large tank. Cut a hole in the cover for the filter. Cycle it and put the fish in until the large tnak is ready
Is this okay?

Sounds fine - I've got a similar set-up I've used as a quarantine. Just be careful cutting the hole - the plastic doesn't always do what you want! And you may need a piece of wood to keep the filter steady - the Rubbermaid rim isn't as wide as an aquarium's.

I would be careful with the heater. You don't it to melt the plastic. I would also wash it really good with uniodized table salt to make you get all the plastic chemicals off before you set it up. You also might want to make it very temporary, you never know what kind of chemicals can excrete from the plastic. You have to remember plastic is a petrolium poduct and can have very dangerous chemicals in it that can come out due to prolonged water contact.

Just be very careful. Remember you can safely have one inch of fish per gallon of water.

as long as you cycle it through and has no harmful containers or excape routes i think your ok, you need a heater, and be sure to cycle it for a week as one does with every new tank.
