Garage door openers run on 110 volt AC house current. For the ones that have a wireless remote controller, the controller has batteries. The older ones often use a 9 volt battery, but most newer ones use two AA batteries. It's easy to tell; all you have to do is find the battery compartment and pop the cover off.

The push button by the door, no. Uses power via the wires (typically) unless it is wireless, then yes.

The remote must have one. A lot use a standard 9 volt, but pop open the case to be sure. You have to open the case to replace it anyway, so make sure you get the right battery. Or look on Mfr website to see what it says in the manual. If the battery is good, make sure the 'dip' switches on both the remote and opener are the same!

The opener unit gets power from the 120vac

The garage door opener itself is run by electricity. The hand held opener usually runs on a 9 volt battery (the square one).

There are several manufacturers that make openers with a battery backup. If that's what you're referring to, they are 12 volt batteries inside the motor housing, or in a seperate housing. The sizes vary according to manufacturer.

If you are talking about the remote control, the answer is yes. Mine is 9 volt. The opener itself does not have a battery.
