Thank you all very much! You have helped me a ton. And no the docs didnt know what to do, and it didnt say on the chart how much tylenol to give her. And walgrees was closed. So i tried all that. She seems fine today, just really congested. I tried the saline drops and the aspirator. She hated it but it worked. and gave her a bath. Well thank all of you for your help! This place is awesome, im glad i came here for help. O she has a doc app tomorrow, so im sure we will be fine until then as long as her temp doesnt go over 100. Thank you thank you thank you!!! Jes

tylenol:
weight:
6-11 lbs 0.4 ml drops
12-17 0.8 ml
18-23 1.2
If she is congested take her in the bathroom and strip her down to her diaper. If you have "vapor bath" squirt some in the tub and turn the shower on hot. Hold her on the bathroom floor and let her breath in the steam and vapors. It will at least temporarily help.
I would only call ambulance if fever reaches 101 (rectal).

Sounds like she's got a cold.
A 99.4 fever isn't very high, and could easily becaused by her crying. Don't worry about the fever until it's over 101 degrees. If you know how much she weighs, use the directions on the liquid tylenol to find the appropriate dose according to her weight. If her weight doesn't show up on the chart, then just cuddle with her, but keep her dressed simply... not too many clothes or covers... and all natural fibers. The synthetics are like little ovens and just heat the kids up. Also, try to aspirate her nose so the stuffies go away, and put 2 drops in each nostril of a the following solution... 1/4 cup luke-warm water with 1/2 tsp salt in it. That will dry her nose up so she can breathe. You'll have to lay her on your lap and hold her firmly while doing this.. she's gonna hate it.. but it'll help! I promise!!
Temps are usually higher in the evenings, so if you can get her settled down for the night, she'll probably be much better by morning.
Take a deep breath and let her know you know EXACTLY what you're doing and you're very calm about it.. That should also help.
To the poster above... You have to be very careful giving a fevered child a bath. It can cause serious problems if they cool too quickly... and in this case, a 99.4 fever isn't really considered a fever at all.

The 99.4 temp is probably caused by her crying and it is low enough to not be a concern. If it reaches 102 then take appropriate action. At 103 or 104 you need to cool her off with a bath that is not cold but cooler than normal. If she is congested then that makes it hard for her to drink a bottle, can't breath and suck at the same time. Use a nasal aspirator, (snot sucker) to clear her nose. She is probably very hungry so that's why she is crying. Sometimes a crying baby can't stop crying to suck a bottle. You have to help her calm down so she can eat and then she'll be OK. If she has an upset stomach then try Pedialite or Gator-aid. Milk and formula can upset her stomach more and prolong the problem. Good luck and have patience, don't get mad at her.
Caution: Children's Tylenol is very strong. Don't over do it.
Daddy of 5, (I hope that's all)

OMG the docs you talked to are complete IDIOTS!
look at the infant Tylenol dropper. there are TWO lines. a 0.4 and a 0.8
my doc advised me to give my daughter (when she was under 6 months) the 0.4 level.
i actually prefer the Infant Motrin because it's dosage chart goes by pounds rather than age.
on that chart she would get 0.4 ML again..(same as Tylenol.) you can also try a luke-warm cloth on the back of her neck to help cool her off.
99.4 is only slightly elevated. that's not a high fever, so don't over worry yourself about that too much hon.
for her congestion. take her into your bathroom, and turn on the HOT water in the shower. close the door and let her breath in the steam. she will start to cough a bit as the mucus breaks up..pat her gently on the back to help break up the mucus.
if she is throwing up, it's probably mucus.
if her fever does not go down within the next 4-6 hrs. OR gets worse, call your BF or a neighbor or a friend and get her to the hospital.
an infection in a child as young as yours is not good.

Her temperature isn't all that high. If it goes higher than 102 and won't come down after 24 hours, then for sure give her a warm bath. Yes, a warm bath--like you normally give her. It will make her feel better, even breaking up the congestion. So you could give her a warm bath regardless of her temperature. Hold her a lot too. She may have an ear infection. Or it's just a cold. Let her sleep in the car seat so that she can breathe easier. If she seems to be getting worse, then see a doctor.

Call your b/f and ask him if he can leave early and have him pick up some infant saline drops. These are safe for all ages. It will help with the congestion. Also use the nasal aspirator to suck out any mucus from her nose. At 2 months my son's doc told me one dropper full of Tylenol..so half the recommended dose for a older baby/toddler. Also have your b/f buy one of those Vicks Vapor plugs. You can plug it into the closest outlet where her crib/bassinet is and that will also help with the congestion. Pedialyte is the only thing that my son's doc told me to give him when he was throwing up and could not keep down his formula. She said that the electrolytes aid in brain development when they cannot eat.

I'm shocked that your doctor dropped the call like this - that's terrible. The dosage of Tylenol is given by the weight of your baby and not by the age. Check on the side of the bottle, there is a chart there. If your bay has a fever be sure not to overdress her so she is not too hot. Do keep clothes on her though so she doesn't get a chill. If she is sleeping much more than normal I would take her to another doctor if available at this time or directly to the Hospital (pick one with good paediatrician's on emerg). I'm sure your baby will be fine but it is better to get checked out. Fevers at such a young age should be checked out as her immune system is not as developed as an older baby. Good luck and go now with her...

Ok so the doctor should know how much medicine to give the child but on the box it should give a dosage for the age group. The fever isn't too high so that is good. Sick babies are crabby no way around it. I have sat up whole nights with my son throwing up and feverish. Put a cool washcloth on her face and sponge her down. use a vaporizer for the congestion this will help a lot.

When my son has a fever (even when he was that small) the doctors on base used to tell me to try and give him a bath. Not to cold but not hot. It helps in bringing down a fever and since her fever is still low grade it may help. My son had a fever that lasted all day of 102 last week (he had an upper respiratory infection) and after we kept giving him medicine and it not doing a thing we bathed him and there it went. He threw a fit in the bath tub and it still broke the fever.

She could be getting a virus, flu, or even possibly have an ear infection. It's hard to say, give her lots of liquids, if you notice that she stops wanting to eat, than you need to take her to the er. the temp isn't really high, so no need for tylenol now. just keep a close eye on her. lots of love! good luck
