Definitelty Healthcare is more important. Preserving lives is more important than destroying it.
I support our troops and hope for their safe return. They did not declare this war. They are just following orders.
We can hardly call this war defense since it is not ours to defend or fight.

Healthcare spendings pays divdends in the long term, and millitary spending is useful to a point. Around 5% of GDP in Millitary spending is acceptable, but above 5% than its just overboard then. Healthcare spending is 16% of GDP because of curroption, and inefficenices. Want healthcare costs reduce people gotta live with basic coverage and not cadillac style healthcare treatments. Can pretty much have a person live 75 years old on average with just 1/5 the healthcare spending we have right now, but a lot of goodies, and medication for treatment will be gone.
Healthcare spending falls in the same trap as millitary. Healthcare spending increase only give marginally better value for the patient after a certain amount. Economics is study of using what you have the efficent way possible.

Healthcare...100%!!!
I don't think that socialized healthcare is the answer to all our healthcare problems, but it would be great to have that OPTION. I'm sure we would still have private healthcare insurance, but being young, poor and self-employed, I'd like to live in a country gave me some sort of option that didn't cost almost as much as my rent every month just in case something happens to me.
That would be better than spending all that money on the folly of the Iraq war. I know some people are glad to see us there, but we really should be taking care of our own people first.

Both systems are full of corruption and need to be made more efficient. Defense spending should be spent to defend, not preemptive wars that serve no purpose except to stimulate the economy through war profiteering. Healthcare spending should be invested to insure all Americans in order to benefit the whole of society; a healthier society means a society that is better able to defend America when needed.

No it is not the governments job according to our constitution to provide health care for people. The constitution states "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;"
Health care is not "general welfare" it is specific to the individual. The military, and National defense is general welfare because each citizen is afforded the same protection under the government against foreign and domestic invaders.
While it may feel good to want health care for everyone it is not good for all. If I eat right, work to reduce my risk factors, exercise why should I pay for some deadbeat burger munching overweight smoker to have free health care? The proper response is I shouldn't!

Defense spending. Not sure about the money with which you speak, haven't heard that story. WHat good is a country that is under attack, we will need more than health care if we pull out of Iraq before we get the job done in this very winable war. Universal health care will be horrible, I wish you people could go and spend a year in the UK, they will tell you how stupid you are for believing that we need government universal health care. This is the next to step to socialism and eventually communism. I sound extreme, but am not, please WAKE UP America. Get on a UK blog and ask them about universal health care. It will destroy this country! Health care is not a right it is a privaledge, if you want it bad enough you will find a job that provides it or you will sacirfice what ou need to to be able to afford it. I am just above the poverty line so I am not speaking to as a wealthy person. Trust me Universal Health care is not free, our taxes will be raised by atleast 20% and you will have to wait a long time to get in to see one. I heard one story from the UK where a woman was in serious pain for a month after an appendix removal, and it took a month to see a doctor. Please Wake up America.

Healthcare, of course. Defense spending is important also... but I do not necessarily agree with what we are doing in Iraq. Makes me sick when I think too hard about how much good all of that money could be doing.

The irony is that throwing billions in cash at Iraqis is not DEFENSE SPENDING. How much of that money will make its way into the hands of people that want to kill us?
This country is less safe as a result, not better defended.
Uninspected cargo.
Ineffectual airline security.
A surge in terrorist recruitment.
I almost wish that Bush would turn to actively trying to harm America because he is so unable to get ANYTHING right, it would likely result in greater security.
