It is a good book. It is well written and a unique idea. Like good Science Fiction, it is set in our own world, slightly in the future, so we are familiar with the way the universe works. In the story, overpopulation has become a big problem, so the government only lets people have one or two kids (i forget). There then becomes this underground society of kids who have to live their lives in secret if they are born to a family who already has their quota of children.

I loved it. Loved the series. Just a good, exciting series to get hooked on. I read the first six in the series in two and a half days. Could not put them down!

I like it - just realistic enough to be emotionally engaging and just sci-fi enough to be a fascinating plot.

I also really like "Running out of Time" by the same author (Margaret Peterson Haddix.) I have a friend who was putting together an english curriculum for her first year teaching middle school and I pitched her that book when she asked for my advice. She took it and her class really liked it.
