solve for y
-x + 3y = 10

tell whether the lines are parrallel, perpendicular, or neither
y= 4x + 5
y= -1/4x + 5

find the value of n

first one: you must get y by itself
3y=x + 10
the x is + because you crossed the = sign
then you divide everything by 3
what is left is your answer

second one: the two lines have the same y-intercept so they cross at the point (0,5) and have opposite slopes(4/1 and 1/4)
if that doesn't help graph the lines out and you will be able to tell.

third one: I don't think that can be solved and if it can I don't know how

start with the formula
-x + 3y = 10

Since we are solving for "y", add "x" from both sides
+x -x +3y = 10 + x
Reduce
3y = 10 + x
divide both sides by 3
3y / 3 = (10 + x) / 3
reduce
y = (10 + x) / 3

For the next one, make a grid to graph the two formulas. You want to have enough values to see the line so

Start with x = -2 and add 1 until x = +2
Insert into the forumla. The first one is
y= 4x + 5
y = 4 * -2 + 5
y = -8 + 5
y = -3
Do the rest in the grid below
x y
_____
-2 -3
-1 +1
0 +5
+1 +9
+2 +13

Now do the same thing for the other formula
y= -1/4x + 5
y = -1/4 * -2 + 5
y = -1/2 + 5
y = + 4 1/2

Do the rest in the grid below
x y
_____
-2 + 5 1/2
-1 5 1/4
0 +5
+1 4 3/4

When you graph these two lines, you see that they cross at (0,5) and are perpendicular.

For the last question you state it as
5 x -1/5 = n

that is the solution, although you can reverse the order to
n = 5 x -1/5

y=10+x/3

perpindicular

n=1/5 - 5x

-x + 3y = 10
3y = 10 + x
y = 10 + x/3

n = -1
(that is, if "x" means to multiply)

y=(x+10)/3

they are perpendicular, the slopes are opposites and reciprocals

not enough info to solve
