i do it all the time....especially when trying to get a dead manual trans car into my shop...

never caused a problem for me...

Roll-starting or bump-starting won't hurt anything if done properly. Always try to start in 2nd gear. Otherwise, you may lock up the drive wheels (compression lockup), and 1st puts too much strain on the drive train. Don't "pop" the clutch - ease it out quickly but smoothly. You want to get the engine spinning, but if it's jerky, you can break a drive shaft universal joint or CV joint, or even the dogteeth from inside the gearbox

Are we talking about a standard shift car? While I wouldn't suggest doing it often, in the short run it should be okay. If it is a starter issue, get it replaced as soon as you can

i own a repair shop,and it don't hurt it to do it a few times,but if it needs a starter id get it repaired its really not going to help it if you keep starting it like that ,good luck,i hope this help,s.

don`t do that too many times or you will be replacing a clutch
