it doesnt mean anything to me... it's just the country i was born in

I used to never think about what it was to be an American,
but like many people, 911 changed that for me. I never worried about suicide bombings, or terrrorist attacks. I never thought about all the people in the War torn countries fighting to stay alive. I never even thought about what people did for me to get this country to where it is today. Well that has all changed.

In a America, I am free to say what I want when I want. I can say it where I want and how I want so long as I don't hurt anyone in the process, or damage someones property.

As a woman, I can go and do what I want when I want, and I do not have to ask my husband. I can choose to be a stay at home mom, or I can choose to work. I can have children or I can choose not to have children. If I choose to have children, I don't have to limit it to one, I can have as many as I want.

I can get groceries when and how I wish, although I am on a budget. I can go to school, or I can choose not to.

Many men have given up their lives for my freedom. My father sustained a head injury in the Korean War that would leave him with little to none of his childhood personality. He had to learn his family all over again. He was fighting for someones freedom. My Adoptive father took a bullet to his back and was injured to the point of not being able to help his wife conceive when he came home. That is a high price to pay for freedom. My brother in law served in Irag and he did not come back the same person he was, he saw to much.

Being an American is a priviledge, and I am proud to say that I am an American. I have so much, even though I am of a low income household. So much has been layed down for me, and not to be proud of who and what I am, would be wrong in my Opinion.

I am an American.

Well, I got that email today about I am white and proud to be just a regular American, but I dont like everyone else getting special treatment, so I guess it means I am white. I am just an American, who has to work harder for what I want or need, I don't have anything else to put in front of American. (native am., afr.am., mex.am. so on and so on. Just American. just white, I guess. No freebies, no fairness. and for some reason, no equality. hmmm
