This is my first baby, and is not twins. How come I'm only 12 weeks my belly is already getting bigger? I thought it wasn't until 16 weeks that your belly begins to noticeable grow. I have a friend who is 16 weeks who is showing as much as me. She is very petite and skinny though, and I'm more average a size 12, but I had a flat stomach to begin with

Everybody is different. I am 5 months and I have yet to go into maternity clothes. I am just starting to pooch out. My sister in law popped out right at her 2nd month. Every woman's body is different. It doesn't matter whether or not you had a flat stomach going into a pregnancy. Your body is reacting to your pregnancy the way it needs to. As long as you are healthy and the baby is developing just fine, don't worry. Enjoy this time. Being pregnant is an amazing experience--this is my first child as well. It is amazing to have this living child growing and moving inside you.

it varies. You notice yourself getting bigger before anyone else because things stop fitting like they used to. I remember the first time I noticed I was showing a little bit. I was getting dressed and I happened to look down and notice I had a bit of a bulge. The other reason people start noticing is because of the weight gain, especially people you are around every day. It could also be that you are a little further along than you thought. It will even out. Skinny girls tend to show sooner than average girls because there's not as much to hide it. If you had a flat stomach to begin with, that would be the very reason you starting to show sooner. You are beginning that bump in a normally flat stomach. It's okay. If you become concerned about how big you are getting and how soon, talk to your doctor. They can do an ultrasound and reassess exactly how far along you are.

Everyone is different. I have always been very petite and skinny too, and for me it seems my belly swelled up before the pregnancy test ever came back positive! I was always HUGE and looked like I was carrying twins! I carry low and OUT though...every woman is built different and every woman will look different while pregnant. Just enjoy it because it will be over before you know it. I kept a pregnancy picture diary with my second and third babies. Every month I took pics of my belly. I STILL love looking back through them and seeing how much my stomach would grow in a month and how big I got! Plus, the boys love to look at the pics and think that they were actually in there! :-)

Several reasons contribute to you showing so soon. Number one is if you aren't eating properly you can already start gaining weight that isn't related towards the baby. Number two is you can be retaining a lot of water. Number three is that you may have a big baby. Number four is that this is an early sign of gestational diabetes. And last but not least, everyones body isn't the same. More than likely, its nothing and you just show faster than some mothers.

I had a really flat belly because I did 90 crunches everyday before I got pregnant. I started showing at 12 weeks too. I think everyone is different.

Well, if you have a flat stomach you are prob small framed..its normal to show that soon. I started showing around 12-13 weeks and popped right out at 20 weeks...people don't even believe me that I am 24 weeks, they think i'm 30-35. Dont worry about it, everybody's body is different, dont compare yourself to anybody else. Good luck with your pregnancy!

with my first I was huge, and it started around 10 weeks. But then with my second, I was 5 months pregnant and still wearing size 3, at the end of my nine months, my belly looked like a football,,not like the first it looked like 2 basketballs, and I didn't have twins. It funny how that works

You can't compare yourself to anybody else in ANY aspect of your pregnancy. I was violently ill for the first 14 weeks and other friends skated through it, making me feel very angry towards them for getting it so easy. My friend is also pregnant and she's significantly smaller than I was at the same amount of weeks and I think she feels inferior and WANTS to show more. You will definitely begin to feel "thicker" around the middle by now and within a few weeks you'll probably pop out. Just relax and roll with it. Good luck!

Not to worry - every woman shows differently during pregnancy. Twelve weeks isn't unreasonable for your stomach to be growing larger, even for a first and single pregnancy. (And size 12 isn't large, by any means, so you would certainly show sooner than a larger woman.) As long as your OB or midwife is happy with your baby's development and your rate of weight gain, try not to worry about how much you're showing - in fact, try to enjoy it!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Don't worry! I'm 10 weeks with my first baby, and I already have a belly.
