...came up to you and suggested the moon landings were faked, what would you do?

After all the training, the time you missed with your family, the immense risk of leaving the earth, and knowing that you only had one shot at getting onto the moon or off the moon, how would you feel if one of these little idiots, who know nothing about space, the Apollo program, except what they hear from equally ignorant friends or from ludicrous conspiracy sites - tried to tell someone like you that you faked it.

I can't imagine what I would do...

I would try to calmly explain the facts. Yelling at people less intellectual than you does no good. Astronauts learn to be calm in stressful situations so I think that is how they would handle it.

Give them a good telling off and suggest they get an education, research the facts and don't believe what their ignorant friends and malicious internet sites say. Also ask them why their rivals, the USSR, did not denounce them for attempting a massive fraud, when they would certainly have been tracking the radio traffic through directional antennas at sites located thousands of miles apart, in Moscow, Vladivostok and in ships and submarines, so that they could triangulate the position of the source of those signals in the same way as the Germans did with illegal radio apparatus in their territory during WW2? Also ask them why the small samples the Soviets obtained from their automated probes were both chemically and isotopically consistent with the large amount of soil and rocks the Apollo missions brought back, and were dissimilar to material of terrestrial origin?

It's like this:

You can't cure dumb, all you can do is shoot it.

Like most conspiracy nuts, the "Faked Moon Landing Cult" has adopted this nonsense as a religion. Their belief is as deeply rooted in it as any other religious person's beliefs. In spite of all evidence to the contrary a true believer can not be shaken.

So, since shooting dumb is illegal, I would probably do as I have been doing for years. When I find myself in discussion with a conspiracy Kook, I shake my head, cut the conversation short and walk away.

Remember, never wrestle with a pig, you will both get muddy and the pig likes it. The same is true of a believer. Never argue with an idiot, it only take a few seconds before it becomes difficult to tell the two of you apart.

Well, Buzz Aldrin did actually punch a guy in the face over this and fair enough too. Personally I would have slugged him with a moon rock, they brought plenty of them back to Earth, and it would kind of drive the evidence home...

What I would really do though, is to lament the lack of scientific literacy amongst today's youth and try to educate them better.

I would do exactly what Buzz Aldrin did to a third rate documentary maker that called him a coward and suggested the same thing...

I'd punch him out.

However, it saddens me that all these kids these days are this gullible to actually believe the Moon Landings were a hoax. I guess it is true, kids are getting dumber...

I would recognize the reality of the world they live in. The last two presidents are both liars. Clinton lied about his sex life. Bush lied about the nonexistent Weapons of Mass Destruction and lied about a nonexistent connection between Iraq and the 911 disaster. Children today have reason to take what they are told by our government with a grain of salt.

Yeah that would piss me off. I was in college for aerosoace engineering when that show came on about the moon landings being faked. I was extremely insulted.

I would feel sorry for them and their ignorance. Sometimes you have to rise above those that are beneath you and just not respond at all. This way you can still walk away the better person.

Seriously, if someone stood two feet from you and called you "a liar, a coward, and a thief", what would you do?
