Well, we came home and I walked re-e-eally slowly up the driveway (it was a steep incline and I had a cesarean!) and my boyfriend carried the baby in his seat. He set teh baby seat down on the couch and by the time I had taken my coat and shoes off and sat down, he had made two trips to the car and carried all of our things in. Then we uncovered the baby (it was early February) and looked at him for a moment, and then at each other, and then back at the baby. I was at a total loss as to what to do now!

The baby was sleeping, none of his things needed washing or picking up, it was too early to go to bed, someone was going to make us dinner (we shared a house with his sister, her husband, and their 2 month old). So we just kind of sat there for about 20 minutes not knowing what to do now.

Then his parents and grandma showed up and woke the baby up, who started screaming. So we took him out of the seat and I went into the bedroom and nursed him for about an hour, and then my boyfriend brought me a diaper. We changed him and then as I was buttoning up his sleeper, I realized that all underneath of him was soaked, but the new diaper was still bone dry!

Somehow, he'd peed in between the old and new diapers and we hadn't noticed. So we had to get a new sleeper and change the bed sheets. LOL.

Not exactly what I imagined I'd be doing on our first night home.

It's a strange time, a really great time, but strange. I had a really good experiences both times, after my second daughter I had an emergency c-section and it was difficult to take care of her and my 2 1/2 year old, but I had lots of help. After getting home and settling down, you just get into the routine of being a mom and having a great, perfect little baby to love and take care of.

I have 4 children and the miracle of their existence never fades. With each one I simply sat and marveled for hours, well, honestly, days.

I remember loving being pregnant and having conversations with my unborn babies. Not so much with the first, but definitely with the other 3 - many, many times during the last few weeks - I'd stroke my tummy and say "You're coming soon and we'll never be this close again!"

Holding each one in those first few days especially, I'd wonder what life has in store for them. I'd caress those tiny fingers and try to imagine the kind of person each would be. I be oblivious to the rest of the world as I simply watched them sleep.

No other experience in my life can compare to the sheer joy and wonder of those first few days with each new life.

I had to give this question a star - I am due in 3 weeks and my husband and i have no idea what we will do with out baby when it comes home - i think we will sit and look at him for a long time..........i look forwrad to hearing the other responses - although perhaps you should have posted in newborn instead of pregnancy.

Its a good one anyway!

I have been pregnant 3 times and have 3 boys. After I had my first I went home and just held him. I was amazed at how I brought this child into the world. For my second child I came home and relaxed. My husband, and I just enjoyed our new baby boy. My oldest was fascinated that he had a new baby brother. My third I came home and again enjoyed having my new baby boy. Again my older two just thought that the new baby was great.

The first thing I did after bringing my daughter home was to sit down in the glider rocker in her nursery with her, to enjoy it with her for the first time. We rocked and nursed for at least an hour, just enjoying the quiet and the being together. She was so tiny and perfect, I was content to just sit (albeit on my inflatable donut) and cuddle her and look at her. :)
