We went to the Mall of America last year for a weekend trip..
The mall is really 4 levels.... and you walk around in big squares, with an amusement park in the middle of it all.
There are a lot of cool restaurants. There's a big food court on the top floor, but we ate a great lunch at the Rainforest Cafe' on the bottom level.
I think we spent about 4 hours at the Amusement park in the middle. There were 2 roller coasters, I think, some bigger kid rides.. and some kiddie rides... I know we went on a Sponge Bob ride - that you sat in a car, and watched a screen, and it tossed you all around.. You can buy a bracelet for unlimited rides on everything. I believe we paid around $12.95 for that, but we had a coupon.
On the lower level, there is also a small aquarium to visit. That was a lot of fun.. You kind of walk through a tunnel and the fish swim on all sides of you and above your head.
We actually had a "girls day" and we got our nails done.. and there's a Glamour Shots down on the first floor. We had my daughter's hair done (She was 5) and her make up done, and they took some gorgeous pictures of her. That was a lot of fun.
All in all.. we were there two full days, and that was plenty. We were exhausted, but I think we saw everything. There are a lot of tthe same stores on different levels.. (like 2 or 3 "Claire's" stores.. and 4 "Champs Sports" stores.. )..
There were quite a few specialty stores, though, that I had never seen or heard of before, and a lot of cute "Minnesota " stores that sold cute souveniers.
I hope you have a great time, too!

How fun it is depends on what you like. It's an enormous mall. If shopping is entertainment for you, it's great fun. You'll find every store you'd find in every other mall in the world and many more you don't find in a lot of places. There's also lots of restaurants and clubs, and an amusement park in the center of everything. It really is just a big mall, though.
Personally, if I were going to the Twin Cities, I'd rather take the light rail from the mall into downtown Minneapolis, which also has great shopping opportunities, but mixes them with street life and lovely architecture. I'm just not a big mall person myself.

it's just a really big mall, more of a destination. They have a little amusement park inside and lots of restaurants and stores just like a regular mall. It's pretty much just a supersized mall.
