How come rap artists usually release an album every year, while rock artists seem to do it every 2-3 years?

Cause rappers have producers writing there lyrics and and mixing beats.. while rock artist usually go out and tour more. They tour around the world and usually take breaks from the other band members to do side projects or other things.. like movie roles and stuff. Rockers have bandmates that they might not always get along and most of the time they need breaks from one another.

i'm a music producer. the truth is many bands often break up or people are doing their own projects. many rock band projects are ideas made up by the compay. also it takes more time to fit a whole band into a room to record. has nothing to do with making beats on computer (which takes more skill than going out to learn how to play guitar-anyone can do that not everyone can make a beat on comp-espeically one people will like).

where as with rap-its usually about getting the money now and i mean now. usually there's just one person involved (the rapper) making it easier to do a session pretty much anywhere (in home studio's for example-can't fit a whole band in a home studio unless youre filthy rich and have a home studio built in a large room (some do i believe blink 183 did all their recordings in a home garage they turned into a studio).

but so that you know most rock bands turn out new albums year after year.

oh one last thing. many times if a rapper is hot (say like 2 pac was for a second there) the record labels will often try to take advantage of that and bascially reissue stuff the artist didn't use-and try to pass it off as new stuff. so you get all these albums.

Yeah, good point. Today the music market has changed so dramatically from back then. Good artists today tend to wait a year+ before releasing a new album but string along their fans by releasing new singles here and there (example: The Arctic Monkeys released R U Mine? and within hours it was a top trending topic on twitter). As mentioned The Vaccines have done something a tad different from the new 'norm' and are releasing their 2nd album not to long after their first (plus they have released numerous b-sides). Compare this to The Strokes who waited sometime before the release of their album Angles, they had lots of media hype and their fans were pre-ordering the cd months before it was released. There is no definite reason for all artists but many (especially bands) like to pursue side projects (Vampire Weekend for example), they also may take a break from writing songs or have a packed tour schedule and have no time for writing/recording. Because rap is something that you just dont write down, you say what comes to you when it comes to you, you don't have to sit down and right a song you just say what you feel and take it from there, instead having to wait for someone to thing of a song and etc...... also rock artist usually play there on instruments unlike rap artist who just get a beat and spit.

rap artists can make albums every other week if they wanted too, and they pretty much do w/ mixtapes. but its because they can think of things on the spot, while rock music you have to write out the lyrics, then the drummers pt, the guitars pt. so it takes time

That's easy , cause rap is more of a simple form , nothing complicated at all. Rock artists actually play instruments , sing , write music , etc. where rappers don't. A rock album takes longer to make cause it's real music.

I think most rap artists have been writing their lyrics/poetry years before they ever become "famous"....so they have a lot ready to go.

One example.......on TV they showed files of Tupac's poetry that will never be released.....he started when he was 12 years old.

rap artists want to stay relevent, cus if they aren't relevent, they aren't poplular, because they aren't the newest stuff out. the newest stuff is always the most popular. stuff that isn't new is ridiculed by people (kids and teens) since it isn't the most up to date thing. Rock is way different. since rock most rock fans are more appreciative towards their music. rap fans could give a damn.

thats simple because rap artists rule and can get their acts 2gether bttr than rock...don't get me wwrong i don't have a prob wit rock or rap but my pref is rap all the way!
