Oregon recently passed a law requiring police to return or compensate for crime evidence, but it wouldn't surprise me if they could just confiscate it in other states.

Well my question is why and how was YOUR gun used in a shooting if it was in your house? Maybe since you spent sooo much money on this gun, maybe you should have invested in keeping it safe and protected if it so precious to you. And, that is a lovely sentiment that you now think your gun has "street cred"; you are a complete moron!! To answer your question, no you will not get it back, and if I were the police, I would make sure your license to carry is revoked just on the basis that you are a complete idiot and unable to be responsible for possessing a firearm and henceforth someone DIED because of it!

NO, NO, NO
It is evidence and will be kept as such.
Why would your gun be used in a murder and you be able to claim you wanted it back anyway? If used with your knowledge, you can be charged with being an accessory to that murder.
If it were stolen, it would still be kept as evidence.

Would you want it back. But, if you have this weapon duly licensed, and it is no longer needed as evidence you can probably get it back.

never ,it is evidence that goes on file, and you could be held partly responsible ,because you are expected to look after your gun.
and in South Africa you get prosecuted for allowing it to be stolen ,you have to be hit over the head or in hospital to escape punishment

Why would you even want it back? No you can not. It is admitted into evidence or destroyed by law enforcement.
