my all time fav is The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky. I'm not sure if you would like it though.. it takes a certain type of person to really like Dostoyevsky- his work is difficult to understand and read, its very philosophical- existential even, and some of it can be quite long and dry. Also there are about 30 characters with long, complex Russian names- it can be hard to keep them all straight. BUT if I haven't scared you off yet, then I HIGHLY recommend it. It was one of those profound books that once you put it down you are a little changed inside. And you know you will never quite be the same. That feeling that you just experienced something truly magical, thought-provoking, awesome. I literally cried when i was done with this book- and not because someone died or it was sad or touching. But because it was over. I cried because it was over and I couldn't have any more. So, If I didn't scare you off by the first part and intrigued you by the second part then go out and buy it. you will not regret it.

Well, if you're a mature, open-minded woman, I suggest that you read...Fear Of Flying by Erica Jong. It was an amazing book! It's a fiction story but it obviously reads like a total biography. Erica Jong has admitted that she basically was the main character, Isadora. This book changed my life because Erica is not afraid to speak her mind and she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her which is very refreshing. She talks about men/women relationships and is very candid about sex/love/ and all the feelings that go along with. She's definitely all about getting what she deserves/needs and I say...Amen to that. :)

Lonely Planets by David Grinspoon.

-The author of this book is a fantastic philiosopher, a credable scholar in astrophysics, a great sence of humor, and possibly the least biased author I have ever read from.

This book definately makes you wonder, and the writing is powerful for both the skeptic, the fanatic, and the average person.

So if your interested in science or philosophy, or just want a brain teaser in general.. check this book out!

I also recommend:
The Hollographic Universe
The Lost Star {of myth and time}
The Earth Path

Try Watchers by Dean Koontz. It's got everything: action, adventure, mystery, international intrigue, spies, assassins, romance, humor, genetically engineered monsters, horror, and a really smart golden retriever named Einstein who has a Mickey Mouse fixation.

The story is about an ex-military guy who finds a dog while hiking in the woods. Einstein, the dog, prevents Travis, ex-military dude, from going further into the woods. When Travis realizes the dog is trying to protect him from something sinister approaching he begins to unravel the mystery and joy that is Einstein. While trying to stay ahead of the monster and evade the assassin that is after them both, Einstein fixes Travis up with dangerously shy Nora who may need protection as well...

To find out the rest of the details, you have to read the book! :)

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoi - good to read when you're over 20. When I was reading it I wasn't absorbed in Anna's melodramatic life - a lot of women feel the same, for me it was more interesting to read about Levin and his life.

You should read Pride and Prejudice if you haven't already. I don't know if you would enjoy it because I don't know what you like to read, but I hope you consider this book.

One of my favorite books is the golden oldie Gone with the Wind. It has drama, love and just about anything you would want in a book.

Paulo Coelho "Veronica Decides to Die" - this book put a lot of things in my life in a whole new perspective... You have to read it to see it for yourself, but believe me- it's well worth it. "Eleven minutes" by the same author is also well worth the reading.

BLEAK HOUSE is one of the greatest novels in English, although incredibly depressing. But I'd also suggest Garcia Marquez' ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE, one of the finest works of the 20th Century, and de Laclos' LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, one of the most decadent novels ever written (and this is back in 1782!).
