Most weathervanes are mounted by use of a bracket. There are fixed angle brackets, and there are flexible angle brackets.

Ordinarily, this bracket would be placed UNDER the tile or shingle. Usually, this only involves peeling the ridge cap, and a single tile on either side of the peak. The installer should also reseal the tiles when they are reset, to keep any water from getting under them.

Wherever you buy your weathervane from, should have these mounting brackets, and full instructions.

Have Fun :)

Unless you are a professional, I would not try installing anything on a clay tire roof. (In South Florida we call it terra cotta tile.) However, I see no problem in installing a pole from the eaves of the house and mounting the weather vane on the pole. It would be the same effect. If you have a chimney, you might try putting a bracket there and mounting the weather vane from that source.

weird and wonderful, yet organic yoghurt painted on and they'll seem weathered extremely instantly. examine it out on a spare tile to make certain for your self. a trick used through backyard designers to age any stone/concrete etc.
