I have a 1984 Dodge Ramcharger that has a 2 barrel holly on it. I think it needs to be rebuilt because the choke will stick on it. I am just wondering how much it would cost to take to a shop?

I just checked pricing for a rebuilt carb $194.99
carb kit $18.99
I don't recommend rebuilding a carburetor yourself unless your familiar with doing the job.
shops typically charge 1.5 to 2 hours to rebuild carbs.
a carb this old could have worn throttle plate so I would just get a rebuilt and have it replace.
that being said, the problem you are having is a sticking choke this should only require a cleanup and adjust. maybe a chock coil and or choke pull off.
these are all minor repairs compared to rebuilding the carb.

Carburetor Rebuild Cost

While it might cost $100, or so, shop around first for the best deal. You could also tackle the issue yourself. It really is not that hard. For the cost of a rebuild kit, about $20-$30, and some cleaner, you could do it yourself and learn something about the car. The first thing I would do, however, is to clean that carburetor with a good cleaner. Get a spray can of carburetor cleaner, pull off the air cleaner, and spray down the linkages on the outside of the carburetor. Let that evaporate off, then start the engine. With the engine running, look down into the opening of the carburetor (this is called the "throat") and look for tan to brown colored stains. Spray the cleaner on them, a little at a time. This will get rid of what might be causing the sticking of the choke plate.

If it's only sticking, check linkages for wear and spray with carburetor cleaner. If that does not do it a new kit will cost $20 - $30 plus the rebuild and re - installation $60.- $75.. They are super easy to rebuild but to do a good job it may be necessary to soak it in carb cleaner and chase out all passages with fine wire and blow out with a high pressure hose. Before you start you may be facing $105. tops. I'd check on a rebuilt one at NAPA or Car Quest, check on a price and go from there.

A carburetor is nothing. $30 for the kit to rebuild it yourself. A shop should charge less than $125 to rebuild yours. You can buy a rebuilt one ready to put on for $260-300 You can buy a brand new aftermarket edelbrock or holley carb for $250-300

$150 to $300 depending on a lot of factors. It might be better in the long run to replace it with a new one. It would depend on how long it's been on the vehicle and how old it is. After the first 10 to 15 years you get into diminishing returns when you attempt to rebuild.

try to free the choke up or have it adjusted before you have the carb rebuilt, get a can of carburator cleaner at the parts store and spray the choke butterfly real good and work it back and forth and make sure you hit all the linkage good too and see if it helps.
