The Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta is an special offer coming with the first 100,000 copies of Crackdown, or any preorder. The Halo 3 Beta is a temporary online gameplay for Xbox 360's Halo 3 coming on November 2007. The beta should start on April and lets you send comments to Bungie's programmers on how to improve the game.

From the rumors,
The Crackdown disc is supposed to activate a code over Xbox Live in which it will give you access to the Halo 3 beta.
The bad thing is that only the first couple 100,000 copies of Crackdown will have the beta, and then the production will stop with the beta after that.

a beta is almost like a test for the people to play. Betas are used more often of pcgames
