Right, so it's doubly important for parents to screen stuff they give their kids permission to view. We're supposed to model a standard of decency for them, boring or not.

the MPAA was created (by the motion picture industry) to "self censor" (it was NOT created by the government) they created the ratings so that parents and others would have an idea about how appropriate a movie may be for their child. There is controversy on HOW the MPAA rating's board comes up with their decisions and why some stuff can get a lower rating but the same stuff in another movie get's a higher rating.

While I agree with you that the MPAA is trying to censor "real-life" depictions in various movies, some people don't like violence or drugs and don't want to spend their money watching a movie that has themes that they are against.

To serve as a caution to parents. Some people still believe in raising their child under certain restrictions. Any kid that would want to see a movie that is not allowed by their parents would leave out the parts of the movie that makes it attractive to them. (Let's face it, some of us are not the most up-to-date when it comes to what is "hot" for younger generations.) The ratings help parents decide if the movie is appropriate for kids or not. (Just think of Bad Santa. If you didn't know anything except for the name of the movie, you would let a young one go see it.)

Most parents want to know what their children will be exposed to for entertainment.

You can't protect them from the cr*p in the everyday world...but taking a 5 year old to a movie with lots of violence, sex and profanity is irresponsible.

As a mother of 2 small girls I am glad the movies have ratings, it allows me to control what my children see and what they don't see. The ratings I believe are more for parents and children so that they can make choices wisely, because grownups can watch any movie in any rating, is the chidren who cannot.

Production companies are legally bound to provide a rating of the films they produce. That way nobody can illegally provide mature content to minors in theatres and retail stores. (include opinion here)

Da reason Critis rate movies, is because for one thing--how long it'll be out((movie theater wise)) and how much money it'll make ((due 2 how many viewers c it)) if it wont fly-than da actors//actress wont get a ton of money. They rate da pre-screening WAY be4 we ((da viewwers)) find out about it tht way- da actors//actress cn find out if they actually want 2 *((star)) in it. Hope it helped!:) ~~AJ~~

We want parents to have a chance to know if the movie is appropriate for their kids.
