"Besides cycling the modem, try repairing your network connection. Go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on your Local Area Network connection and choose Repair. This will release and renew your IP address so that it will not have the one that the router gave it, but now will have the one that the modem wants to give it. That should do the trick. "

Further, you can download the WinSockFix 1.1 from http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml Run the Fix and it should clear up any problems (if previous suggestions didn't help).

Try unplugging the power of your modem for a few minutes and trying again. Cable providers sometimes lock the modem to one device, and restarting the modem will allow it to pair with another device.
