I consider my self poor and I have a 2002 car, high speed internet in my house, flat screen tv, sorround sound system, game console 360. Soo whats your point just cuz your poor you cant afford this things, your wrong. You just have to buckle up and save a little money then you can buy things one by one then get up to level on everything else. I dont always have money to spend on clothes or things like that but i have enough to eat, right now it has been a year or soo since i bought my self some new shoes or new clothes but i really dont care cuz i have everything I want and need for now.

I kind of understand your feeling on this. I have always been a working mother (alone) trying to make ends meet and trying most desperately not to go on food stamps or assistance. Although for a year or so when my kids where quite young, I did receive some assistance. But I always wondered how people on food stamps and assistance, living on 'housing', were able to get the gold chains, take trips, buy name brand clothes and snickers for 2month olds who will grow out of them in no time flat, how they were able to do all that and still be on public assistance.
For myself I had to stop thinking about what others are doing and just try to do my own thing. It was always hard but I believe it's made me and my children the people we are and will be into the future.
It's unfortunate but there will always be those who will take advantage of the system that was put in place to help people who really needed the help, who will use the help as it is intended to be used. This is why this 'welfare' system is doomed to fail.
I don't know the answer for what is better, what will work in our society but what we have does not work and will never work.

Well they would not be the first poor ones to have that. I'm glad that a poor person can have that. But they can't be to poor can they.

so? People wear gold jewelry and buy food with food stamps, too
How destitute would their being meet with your approval? Homeless and living on welfare and medicaid that you would pay for anyway? Desperate and robbing you?
