.
Your memory is insufficient, and cpu likely maxed.
They go together you know.
You need to close all other programs, to free up some ram.
It IS POSSIBLE that a game or other application like Adobe has not cleared the resident memory, even thought you have closed it.
This happens frequently with such programs.
Example: My Scrabble game
and also Adobe Acrobat
both max my cpu, AND the situation does not "clear" when I close either one.
I get similar symptoms that you describe, or
just everything slows down way too much.
I can tell this is the case because my scroll feature works poorly. ugh!
You can solve the "memory residence" problem by
Restarting the computer.
It's NOT a problem with your COMPUTER
it is the ugly nature of those applications.
Also, too many Explore windows open at the same time can cause problems the same.
IF the problem presists AT ALL TIMES
then you may have too little free hard drive space
for your virtual memory to function properly.
To solve this, you can
a. add more ram
b. delete some programs to free up hard drive space.
OR add a second hard drive (as slave) for storage to free up space on your master hard drive
c. Go to your Start Up menu and stop some applications from running in the "background"
(all except your anti-virus program)
[ Oh yes, and btw, Norton is a huge memory hog;
dump it and get FREE Avast from www.avast.com ]
d. After you've done all that Use Disk Clean Up >
then Defrag > then Restart your pc.

Maybe you've got too many programs running in the task bar. Are there a lot of little icons down by your clock? Try to reboot if that helps then you must have had too many things running in the "background", if reboot doesn't help the maybe too much is running @ startup, but that goes back to all those little icons down by the clock. For any reason shut a bunch of them off as often as you feel like it. Those thing are programs running in the background and can eat up RAM, which could be some of your problem.

You either have something using nearly all of your memory, or you have a spyware virus!
Clean your computer with a spyware program.
And stop all of the programs running next to your clock!
