i have a dell computer with a 80 gig hard drive i am now trying to add a 40 gig drive however my computer is not boothing i have 2 short beeps on system post but it failed to booth as per normal now my com has 768 ddr memory and a dvd along with a cd drive i made sure tht the master slave is set correctly but its still tripping i tried it a couple of times and it worked i was able to booth my pc and view all the drives in my computer including my new hard drive i dissconnected it to check it again but now the system is tripping again same 2 beeps and cannot locate master slave drive can some one give me some advice plz .

apply pressure on ddr memory maybe it is not mounted properly.

do you hear the HD's firing up? it might be a IDE controller failer
Unplug ide cable from mainboard, if proplem stops, check HD's stats (master, slave, c/s etc..)
Did you add a new cd dvd-rom?, unplug the other ide (or all ide) and see what happens

if you put new RAM in, tke it out, see if problems stop (Leave only one RAM stick in while testing). Some ram is not compatable together, espically in a computer that's has a picky cmos such as dell

did you add any video?, remove it
did you play with the CPU, Make sure it's mounted properly

your secondary hd (40 gig) is also set to master. Change the dip switch to slave drive.

jumpers back of harddrive need to be adjusted, also go into your bios settings check if drive is detected
