Mexico did not get stupid in the 1970s it would of had per capita of $18,000, but I think Mexico will be developed in the next 30 years, but the income gap with Untied States will always exist because 100 years ago Mexican per captia income was 1/4 that of Untied States, and 100 years later same gap. Mexico just needs to avoid the temptation of populism they will be able to provide a standard of living where people would not bother seeking jobs in the Untied States. Still, Mexico will need tax reform, and breakup of monopolies, privatiziation of oil to actually grow the economy faster than 5%. Still, Mexico slug along at 3.5% a year by 2030 have a economy similar to France today. If it grew at 6% a year it would actually narrow per capita income gap with the United States. Most likely 3% to 3.5% growth a year, and still have structrual economic problems, but the use of the la mordida get things done will be gradually reduced.

Of course. Natural resources are not critical to having a first world country, or even the ratio of natural resources per capita. What matters is technology and education, and utilizing the global economy. First world countries use up a lot of the natural resources of other countries, not their own. Mexico has plenty of land, ocean, and wonderful people to accomplish anything!

You might ask if Japan and Switzerland have the resources to be first world countries. I believe in both cases they hardly have any resources and are both first world countries. The difference is that in Mexico they do not protect private property rights.

Yes I do. It is a shame though that its politicians are ranked real high for corruption and greed. In order for Mexico to become a great nation it must start buy cleaning house such as what the current president is doing and to not give in to pressure! While they do this they must see over the people, emphasize education, from natives to everybody! Arriba MEXICO!
VIVA LA RAZA!

As long as the most energetic go-getters in Mexico have to go North across the border to be productive, Mexico will always be screwed.
