what is stock market?

i see it all the time everywhere and here about it and wanted to know what is it

It is a market or group of companies that have decided to list themselves on an exchange that shows all of their financials. In doing so they can use the stock as leverage to buy other co's, pay employees, get loans etc. The shareholder buys a co's stock in the hope that the co. will do well financially and the stock price will increase in price.

The "stock market" is where people get together to sell & buy shares of businesses.
