He certainly possesses the same kind of musical direction as the great Marvin Gaye. Music critics are quick to point out new up and coming artists to singers from the past anyway.
But his (John Legend) music ain't half bad, his latest effort has very old-school Motown sounds mixed with contemporary hip-hop.

Apparently he has high-powered PR people and a talent-starved press looking for something new to write about. Every new artist that comes along is the next Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder or Bob Dylan or whomever. It's off-putting to me.

John Legend do have that old school flav about him and all which in these times are great because it shows how unique u are as a artist and its awesome how he can blend in old school wit new school and make a very rare and unique form of music. He is the next Marvin Green, Al Green, Sam cooke and all those good oldies.

even though the answer is obvious people still have different opinions,but i most say Jhn is very talented on the piano.and he makes women go crazy for him.
