Go out and buy a new one. Except make it a CD/DVD rom drive..those are much better and are getting very cheap now.

I have a flaky dvd drive in my old laptop. What I can do to make it work sometimes is to pop the disk on the spindle and then spin it manually a few times.
I'm assuming since you posted in laptop and notebooks, that your drive is also a laptop drive. If the system is still in warranty, you can get a replacement from the manufacturer. If it's out of warranty, you can still get a USB external drive for it.

Please add details to your question so at least you would solve it directly.
Does it eject any way?
Could you find the cd drive icon in my computer?
If yes, the problem may be on the driver. Driver is a software actually. Try looking the problem in the properties of the cd drive.

It will be okay, just take your computer to the shop and they can pop out the old one and replace it with a new one in a jiffy.

You want to be a little more specific? If not, and you have 30 bucks, you can go buy a brand new one.
