I think that you were to look up the price per pound of tin in a newspaper. Then, using 454g/lb, figure out the price per gram. Second, there are no good or bad points about tin. If you need it to alloy with copper to make bronze, then you do it. If there is an inappropriate use for tin, you don't use it.

It may slightly slow things down but it depends. Foil isn't used to speed up cooking, but to either to stop food drying out while being heated or else to stop parts of your food cooking too fast while other parts are not cooked enough (eg. when you put foil on cakes to stop them burning at the edges). If you're using frozen food, wrapping it in foil may help create steam and therefore cook things more slightly more gently, retaining more moisture. But if you want crispness, firstly make sure the shiny side of the foil is on the inside (reflects more heat and helps crisping), secondly, open the foil about 10 minutes before the end of cooking time to help create a crisp crust. If you're using foil to stop things burning, make sure the shiny side of the foil is on the outside (away from your food).
