My dad always used the toilet plunger to unclog the sink. It is totally disgusting so he would always place it in a plastic bag before using it in the sink

A plunger is a tool and if washed off after use it is ready to be used for whatever it is needed for. The same is for any other tool such as one used to fix the car is used to fix the dishwasher. If tools are cleaned after use how can it be disgusting. Just because there is more usage of the plunger in the toilet than the need for it to be used in the kitchen sink doesn't make it disgusting. The sink needs to be cleaned after the unclogging no matter if it has a plunger of it's own or one shared for all jobs of that type.

Kitchen Plunger

The idea seems gross at first until you stop to think about it. The kitchen sink generally has more germs than almost anywhere else in the home. You have to unclog the sink. A plunger is cheap. Just clean everything with a disinfectant like bleach.

Did the toilet plunger fix the blocked sink? O.K. so what's the big deal? Remember the old saying, "Ignorance is bliss"? If you don't watch him do it or he doesn't tell you how he did it, then you're none the wiser, yeah. His use of the toilet plunger clearly indicates his ability to think laterally and is immaterial when you consider the end result and what a plumber would have charged for the same job.

Bit of an over reaction on your part, but never mind, you'll get over it.

We only have one plunger. But I do clean it between uses. Likewise, we would clean the sink after unclogging. No matter if you use a brand new plunger, part of the action of the device usually brings crap from the trap up into the sink. So you'd be washing it out anyway.

No big deal.

You're overreacting. There are just as many germs and bacteria lurking in the trap of the sink as there are in the toilet. And that gunk in the trap got dislodged and backflowed into the sink when he plunged it.

Use some cleanser on the sink (which you should have to do anyway) and don't worry about it. And give him a hug - unclogging a sink isn't fun!

That's why I have a short handle plunger that I keep just for the sinks.

I think that you are over reacting, as when he completes his job you can clean and disinfect your sink. Actually your sink can be pretty disgusting if you don't disinfect it every once in awhile. I know the thought of him using the toilet plunger in the sink sounds digusting, but plungers are available for sinks, tub and toilets.
