A house in my neighborhood has been vacant since the previous owners left 2 years ago I have never seen the new owner,(had a for rent sign up then later a for sale sign, which has since been torn from the ground by someone) for a while gardners were taking care of the yard but for almost 6 months there has been no sign of anyone. the yard is an eyesore(leaves, trash, 5+ flyers attached to the door, grass dying)next to the neighboring houses which have well-kept yards. Plus the house has a pool, and we are not sure or not if it was drained when the previous ocupants left. Is there anything we could do about this? recomendations are welcome.

I dont think its because they are out of town, this has been happening for 2 years, for a while it was worse untill gardeners started showing up, now they have stoped coming and the place looks like a wreck again

Well, not sure where you are located, but I know in the city I live in, they have a number you call to have the city come out and take care of it and then the city bills the taxes on the property. I would check with your City Hall or Council(or other governing body) and see if they can offer any advice or a solution. I have a similar problem, but the owners still occupy the house. They are just complete a**holes and have no regard for the neighborhood and the fact that all of us in the neighborhood try to keep our little piece of the earth clean and repectable...

First maybe contact the real estate people that are taken care of the property or owners,
and if you don't know the owners address just go online

to the Property Assessors, there's all kinda of PUBLIC Information that can be accessed....... OR

Well go to City Hall and see if they can handle the situation or give you other leads And then maybe
contact the County about the property been a hazard, especially if the pool still has water thats been just seating attracting mesquitos , not to mention the fact a child might get curious and get hurt !
Remember what they say about

The obvious approach is to complain to the city. However, there's also a chance that the owner doesn't realize that it's been neglected if they're out of town or if the bank has repossed it. Look up who owns it, and send them a letter.

phone the city. Most cities have bylaws about this, and they will notify the owner, usually giving him 2 weeks to clean it up, or the city hires someone and then goes after the owner for the cost. At least it gets cleaned up!

Contact the city, they usually have ordinances in place, and will notify the owners. If the owners don't take care of it, the city will at the owner's expense.

contact the local chamber of commerce and see if they can do anything. if they can't do anything you can contact the county commissioner and if they won't do anything you may have to contact the county appraisal district to find out who owns the land and a number to reach them.. it is public information.. You may can get this info online even.. I can for my county. Try calling them to see what is up.. Complain as much as you can to who ever till it gets taken care of... summer will be here soon and snakes and bugs will be breeding there...

good luck
