Having your own apartment can be great, but it can get very expensive, very lonely, and can be a huge pain in the *** if you live a fair ways from your school. In university, the work load will likely be slightly heavier, and you don't really want to waste your time commuting. (Though, some people like reading on buses.)
Living on campus will likely be cheaper because usually utilities are included, and rents are not exorbitant. Also, you can probably get a meal plan and can save time cooking! You'll also be surrounded by other students who are probably all in the same boat as you. If you like going back and forth from home to campus, then living on campus is for you. And think of the extra sleep you'll have in the morning!!
In the end, it depends on you. I currently have my own apartment in the city, and have to schlep all the way to school in the mornings. I also like to stay there all day because I find I get more work done there than at home. But I live close to the park, grocery stores, banks, etc. And I like being able to get away from school for some balance. I'm 23 and prefer my own place as opposed to a tiny dorm full of young college students.
BUT, I've just applied for campus apartments (not dorms, and they have no meal plans). If they offer me an apartment, I'm moving. As I said, living away DOES get lonely.
Hope that helps you make a decision.

When I was in college, I spent my sophomore year in an apartment down the street. I thought I would love the privacy and freedom, but I ended up missing dorm life badly. I felt kind of isolated and cut-off from the goings-on on campus. While there are certainly drawbacks to dorm living, I believe the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Like another user already mentioned, you won't have to worry about paying monthly utility bills (a huge plus when you already have enough stress on your mind); you will be surrounded by your fellow students and more immersed in the campus culture; you will MOST CERTAINLY meet more friends in a dorm; you will have constant resources for studying help OR partying, whichever you are looking for... the list goes on and on.
The best years I spent in college were in a suite setup (two 2-person bedrooms, a mini-kitchen, and a bathroom) rather than a traditional dorm room with a community bathroom down the hall. It kind of offered the best of both worlds. If your school has that kind of setup, I would say definitely see if you can get into a setup like that.
Good luck in your education! These will be some of the best years of your life whichever you choose, so treasure every moment! :-)

I think you should get out a pen and paper and write all the pro's and cons of both Dorms Pro's Meet lots of people, always parties. Dorm Con's no private space, loud noise, annoying people, other peoples, mess, distractions Apartment Pro's Own space, no noise for study, only your mess, close to the dorms (so can meet people and pop over). Apartment Con's Can get lonely, could be anti social. If it is only you being anti social at uni you are worried about then you shouldn't, you will meet people in the end, got a good book called double your dating by david d angalo it can help you become more social

Dorm all the way! You'll get the opportunity to meet tons of people PLUS: When things are going on on campus, the dorms are always the first to know. You'll be able to get a group of people together to watch a game, or play volleyball, or go to the movie, whatever. In a dorm there are always willing participants. Dorms are part of campus. It's best to check it out when you are new to a place. Once you meet a few people you prefer, then you can move into an apartment with them.

Dorm is a must. You know no one. You're going to be rooming with a stranger either way. If you dorm, you have the opportunity to meet a ton of people. That's a pretty critical part of enjoying college, because it's pretty hard to meet a bunch of people unless you dorm.

they both have there positives and minuses, you have the privacy
of your own apartment, not having to deal with the goings on with the, normally crowded dorm and be able to reflect more time on
your studies, or the comrade that you will have with the folks that you will deal with day to day, in the hall, the bathroom, that in my opinion will get on your nerves so bad with their stupid stunts
that have nothing to to with higher learning, will and may cause you to go nuts, because you can't study at your own pace.
it all boils down to this: if you are a liberal arts, or going for a B.A.
2 yr. degree, go for the dorm, but if you are serious about your
college career, take an apt. by yourself. i know it sounds lame,
but you put a lot of time and effort to get accepted to said university, as well as your parents involvement in the cost(if any)
to make you the best educated person that you can be.
this may sound corny but studying on the subject at hand will
will make you pass with marks that are grand.
good luck, and the hope that you will succeed.

Absolutely move into a dorm. You will make friends that will last a lifetime. Plus you won't have to worry about the extra stresses that come with living in an apartment (utility bills, bugs, crime, etc.).
It's part of the college experience!

I do not know wich is cheaper, but if I were you I would move into a college dorm. You can meet some new people, and you can get to know your classmates! I also think college dorms are an overall better experence, expecialy if you are shy!
