Must-see California destinations:
1. San Diego Zoo
2. L.A. Theme Parks (Disneyland Resort, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Universal Studios)
3. Yosemite National Park
4. S.F. Landmarks (Golden Gate Bridge, Transamerica Pyramid, Transbay Twin Towers construction site [will be the tallest skyscrapers west of Chicago when completed], Alcatraz)
5. An authentic California beach town (among my favorites are Laguna Beach, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz)
BTW, don't go to Hollywood...it's almost always dissapointing. The neighborhood is seedy and run-down (full of drug dealers and prostitutes). The tourist attractions are tacky as well. All the movie stars have moved to Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood.
Sea World is also dissapointing, especially after you've seen the far superior San Diego Zoo. Spend more time at the zoo, and skip Sea World.

2. Lake Tahoe- This gorgeous crystal clear lake located high in the Sierra Nevadas is beautiful: http://www.tahoe.com/
3. San Diego - San Diego is large city but spread out with lots of fun outdoor activities and scenic coastline. Be sure to catch a San Diego sunset.: http://www.sandiego-romantics.com
4. Napa Valley - While visiting California I'd recommend visiting Napa or one of California's other wine regions: http://www.cheers2wine.com
5. Disneyland - If you have children, they would probably love Disneyland....or if you're a child at heart. My husband will always love Disneyland: http://disneyland.disney.go.com
Have fun!

San Francisco: Golden Gate
San Diego: San Diego Zoo, Sea World
LA: Disneyland, Universal Studios
There are many nice places in California but definitely these are landmarks which anybody in the world knows.
Some people might not know Monterey, Sausalito, Sonoma, but definitely even children would know Disneyland.
Once you see the Golden Gate even in movies, you know it is always San Francisco.
Once you hear of Sea World or San Diego Zoo, you always know it is San Diego.
Once you hear of LA, it is always synonymous to Hollywood/Universal Studios!

Well, on your trip to "Cali", be sure to stop in "Frisco", then drive south to "La-land". And be prepared to be laughed at for using any of these terms.
