Assuming that you want to be writing in English, I would say you need to studying the English Language and possibly literature. You should also have a big interest in at least one area of sport.

One other thing you could do is go see some of your local sports teams play and think about writing your own report and sending that in to your local newspapers if they don't already cover that sport/team. You may get something published, which can only help you with future applications as a sports writer.

Take a journalism or writing class. It would also be a good idea 2 do this in high school.

you should get whatever experience you can...school newspaper, stringing at a local paper, apply for internships, whatever you can find. The sooner you build a book of "clips" the easier it will be for you to move into a "real" job.

Take a lot of writing classes, make sure that you apply to get published, and make sure that you graduate.
