The study of History to me means these people really lived, loved, laughed and passed on. It also means that if we DON'T study them and their lives and times that we will be doomed to the same mistakes they made!

Wisdom. Wisdom to know what has worked in the past, and what hasn't. Wisdom to guide my actions with a knowledge of past successes and past failures. Wisdom to know that I'm not bound by the past, I don't HAVE to do what people did in the past, but having a good knowledge base of historical events gives me the wisdom to break from the past with a better chance of success.
