I want to buy my wife a guitar for Valentine's Day but don't want to spend more than $150.00. Would like the price to include a strap, how to play book, and a soft case. Please advise me on what brand is the best for the money and where to purchase it. Aloha!

Like any other instrument, acoustic instruments mostly come down to a matter of "you get what you pay for". You still might be able to find a decent guitar + case for that amount though. As for brands, maybe try looking for an Epiphone or a Yamaha. These days even stores like Best Buy carry a few guitars, but I'd suggest going to an actual music instrument store, as they probably have a much better selection and more knowledgeable employees.

good guitars can kind of be pricy......maybe you should look in your local classified ads...or a pawn shop......or even try eBay (all the major brands are listed )...

Gibson and Martin are really good brands but they are a little on the high side........

One thing you might want to take into consideration....some guitars are larger than others..if you wife is on the small size...watch that you don't buy one that will be bulky and awkward for her.....

you might even consider a classical guitar for her to learn on..they generally are not as pricy , they run smaller in size, and use nylon strings ..not as hard on the fingers as steel strings.......My first guitar was an old Garcia classical...and I got a real good deal on it used....it has the best sound ...I also have a Gibson acoustic/electric. and a Gibson SG .....I love them all ..

I take it you don't play yourself? Does your wife play or just learning? Guitar Center has several "beginner" level guitars in that price range. When it comes to buying a guitar, it's really a matter of personal preference, feel, sound, fit, etc. I've been playing 40 years and I told my wife not to buy me guitars. She has bought me a couple, but the way we do it is to go to the music store together. I play them all and she tells me which ones sound good to her and which ones don't. Then she buys the one that I like the feel of, and she likes the sound of.
Another word to the wise; most guitar players I know are also gear heads. They tend to buy, sell, and trade guitars constantly. When a spouse buys one for you - it's difficult to trade it off.

martins or taylors

I have an Ibanez Performance and it plays very, very well. And it only cost me $150. I has good sound and the strings are positioned well(i.e. not too high off the fretboard or too low.)My only regret is that somehow it got a crack on the head/neck and now it sounds a bit messy when i play strings open.
