Did you know the History Channel is the one of the most watched TV channels in the world!

I love history documentaries because they are factual real and entertaining. I can't understand how people can wade through small minded soap operas everyday like East Enders because they are fake and far fetched.

History programs are supposed to make us learn from other people's mistakes. I learned history a million times faster at school when our teacher showed us video documentaries with film footage of the events in question as a treat.

I still find them fascinating to this day. Ancient History right up to the last decade.

One of the professors at the university that I attend describes Channel 5's historical documentaries as "t*ts and Hitler" because that's all they show.
They are a good way, but not the best, documentaries such as the series about the American Civil War that is shown on the History Channel, and the Nazis a warning from history are extremely good, but ones like Rory MacGrath's Bloody Britain are useful for giving you an outline only.

I like them- they pique my interest in things. However I do tend to find that in being limited by their time slots, they chop a lot of the good stuff out. I prefer books for this reason.

I always enjoy Simon Schama and David Starkey though as their work is interestingly presented. I also like the war in colour documentaries simply because it's so vibrant and you're more used to seeing it in B&W.

I like history, so I automatically like historical documentaries. My preference is those that feature a lot of source documentation; actual footage, strategy, interviews with people who were there or their writings, etc. And the older, the better, so the piece won't be tainted by modern political agendas. (Same with the books.)

Love them, mainly because I find history exciting. I’m always surprised with what I remember.
