My favorite rpg's are:
the Shadow Hearts series- Some of the most interesting and unique rpg characters you'll come across, more adult story lines than the usual rpg fare, and the game play livens up the traditional turn-based system with the interactive judgement ring system so that the battles don't get boring as quickly as usual (aka FFX).
Arc the Lad, Twilight of the Spirits- Interesting dual storyline with lots of plot twists (some eaily predicted and others not); fun game play where you move around and attack which livens up the turn-based system; great characters, especially the Deimos faction which I enjoyed more than the humans (you alternate between playing as humans and deimos).
Star Ocean, Till the End of Time- Great epic story, unique and fun item synthesis, real-time battle rather than turn-based which keeps battles more interesting, and fairly open-ended character development.
I also enjoy the Final Fantasy games, which tend to be beautifully rendered games and very commercial. They also, in my opinion, tend to have blander, more juvenile story lines and more boring, less challenging game play. Still, much more money is put into their production than the other games I mentioned and it shows in the polished graphics and smooth gameplay.

For PS1- Star Ocean: The Second Story
PS2- Star Ocean: Til the end of Time.
Both very unique games. Awesome storyline, and well developed characters. Similar to the FF series, but more creative. I absolutely love it. It's awesome. Would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I enjoyed the games Sims2,Star Ocean, Till the End of Time and Dark Cloud just to mention a few.There is alot of choices out there.

mercanaries and grandtheft auto, most of them...
Grand theft auto 3, Grand theft auto vice city (my fav) and Grand Theft auto San Andres, must get all of these, and they're all pretty cheap, or you could get them in a trilogy box set for like 70 aus. bucks.

Kingdom hearts 2 or 1 and final fantasy.
