Should I buy a refurbished 4th gen iPod?

I am thinking of getting a refurbished 40gb 4th gen iPod, from the online apple store. It's quite cheap, but lots of reviews say that the hard drive keep crashing. i'm also gonna use it as my external hard drive. What you guys think?

Dont Know but go for a new one its better than having a broken one
