I really don't think that 'schools' are a place for children to learn 'values' ... that teaching should be done in the home, by the parents/family. Schools are to teach children 'things' like reading, math, and science, as well as helping children to 'socialize' with their peers. I agree with you that the 'purpose of public education is to assimilate one into the dominant culture' but did you know that the 'public schools' we have today were actually 'started' when Henry Ford was starting up his first 'car company' and he wanted people who could 'work on a production line' ... and even though 'society' and 'the dominant culture' have changed over time, the 'public schools' haven't? If we want to raise our 'children' to be able to 'take over and run the world' we are going to have to find a 'new and totally different way' to teach them 'new things' like how to build, program, and run computers, and how to 'invent' things ...
