I'm needing to do a full install of windows xp home edition on my pc which currently has an unauthorized copy of xp pro. Do I need to totally remove the xp pro before I attempt to install the new xp home, or is there any way this is going to work at all? In other words..... What's my best plan of action?

I recommend formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch. Just backup anything you need to save to DVDs or an external hard drive before formatting it. Boot your computer from the CD and follow the instructions, format the C: Drive with NTFS when it asks, quick format is fine. Just make sure you run your firewall and get the install updated ASAP.

Yes you will, You cannot "Backward" install a OS over another, you will need to reformat, reinstall the OS that you want. Good Luck
