I am a senior in high school and I've never done any sports so I decided to do tennis this year. I don't have to actually "try out" because everyone gets on the team, but I wanted to know if it is really difficult to "get" tennis if you've never played before?
And also what kind of racquet would I need? I am small (5'4", under 100lbs) and I don't know how heavy they are or sizes or anything like that...

ok sorry for the total unspecificness of this question. But basiclly any advice would be good. thanks!

ugh I hate these questions.

I'm gonna say to you what I say to all the hopefulls.

TENNIS IS ONE OF THE MOST TECHNICAL SPORTS IN THE WORLD.

It was rated 3rd I think in sports illustrated under wrestling and golf.

But if im wrong whatever ITS VERY HARD TO PICK UP JUST STARTING OFF.

If you wanna get good then practice thats that.
And practice with someone better than you.

As for a raquect don't pick anything expensive since you don't even know if you will be playing since its a walk-on team. Just buy a decent lightweight racquect.

To me tennis wasn't so difficult to pick up. I started playing my freshman year and I got MVP. Well it all depends on how you are with hand eye coordination. I'm a softball player, so the first time I started hitting the ball with a tennis raquet I hit it like I was hitting a pitch, softball style. It depends on how easily you can pick it up. You definitley have to get the form (swing from low to high stroke) down in order to keep the ball in play. Anyway you should get a raquet that you can swing with, your preference. An oversized frame is ideal if you want power and a regular frame is good for control. There should be some sort of hand chart to show you the size grip you should get. Good luck!

I've played tennis for a while and the length of the racket depends on the length of your arm. Basically the length and size of your racket is the same length of your arm. Tennis is not so complexed to understand but hard to do. The angle and way plus strenght you need to hit the ball. I'm sure anyone can do it if they try. When playing you need to run after the ball a lot. The angle you hit the ball determines the way the ball will go. Keep it straight forward and it will go straight. Good luck!

I dont really "get" tennis either but I play it because I just love the way I get to swing my racquet. Get a racquet thats made of titanium and it'll be light. Tennis is great so I'm glad you decided to try it. Good luck

Get a lightweight Prince or Head racquet. The metal ones are all really light. As far as the fact that you are a novice, I would find someone to show you the different strokes: Fourhand, Backhand, Fourhand Volley, Backhand Volley, and Serving.
