I am moving to Houston in a month and am trying to find a house in a decent school district. I have a kindergartener! So day care and a decent school and a nice house. Close to downtown area. Is this possible? I am moving from College Station, TX.

Bellaire, West University, Southside Place are all great locations near Downtown

That's a tough one. Close to downtown might not be the best place for kids. Most everyone who responded and mentioned the suburbs would probably agree. Spring Branch is nice and has the widest range of everything from what I've seen in Houston: Expensive houses, Cheap House, huge diversity, and good schools.
Try the Cy-Fair/Copperfield area too. Not close to downtown but nice. Visit cyfairmagazine.com for a little insight to this area. This is where I live and work now and I think it's great!

1- The current division alignment places even numbers of teams (16-14) which allows for a balanced schedule. If there was an unbalanced schedule we would have an interleague series going at all times. 2- I'm an Astros fan and live in Texas. There is no rivalry between the Astros and Rangers, on the field or off. Would be good for the broadcasters as they would have 12 or so more chances to over-hype the nonexistent rivalry. 3- I think interleague games are where they need to be. Season starts with games within a teams own league with some early division games. This allows teams to basically see how they stack up vs other teams they are competing with for playoff spots. Then interleague kicks in and fans get to see unfamiliar teams (possibly for the first time ever) and allows the players to see cities and stadiums which they may be unfamiliar with. Towards the end of the season divisional games occur more and decide the division crown.

Bellaire and West University are close to downtown and are excellent neighborhoods with very good schools. All HISD schools are not bad. Those in the inner loop ( like Bellaire and West University) have excellent schools. Go online to find a real estate agent who can guide you to those areas and give you price quotes. Midtown and the Rice University area are other areas that are close to downtown that you would want to take a look at.

I work in League City (about 20 min from houston) and the schools here are really good. I work Clear Creek ISD at a high school. Another good place is Humble ISD (but make sure you go to Kingwood schools (kingwood and humble are right next to each other... but KW schools are better than humble, but it is all the same ISD. I went to KW schools). I would say it is about 20 min to houston as well. Trust me, the commute from anywhere on the outskirts of Houston is better than living in downtown!!!

Close to Downtown isnt easy. There are areas like the Heights area that are interesting, but maybe not the best schools.I dont know what your price range is but the Spring branch area is on the comeback, right off of I-10 WEST,Katy fwry.Good schools. That would be the closest residential.Memorial area(the actual Memorial villages,NOT the area outside the villages) closer in is excellent, but more expensive.

My advise is to look in the Katy or Sugar Land area. Both Fort Bend ISD and Katy ISD are very good. Stay out of Houston ISD or Alief ISD. Bellaire ISD is also pretty good but can be expensive to live in.

if you have to have a puplic school, near that area, go for HISD school district, but in the Village area. Don't look in Bellaire cause the traffic is awful. Coming from college station, that will be a lot to adjust to. But also try thr Heights area. But if you can avoid puclic school, and can't afford private, try one of the many charter schools. Hope this helps.

I suggest conroe or spring isd. They have a great academic program. If you move a little further north you would have about a 30 minute drive to downtown but it will be worth it. depending on how much you want to spend look into legends ranch and imperial oaks subdivisions, they are really nice, have playground and pools as well as are located in conroe isd.

I'd look at Bellaire.. Bellaire schools are very good. Housing is pricey, but the location is great.
