I have no idea, but as a server that is disrespectful to the staff of the restaurant that has to clean it up.

Honestly, sometimes I just want to walk up to those people and ask them if they allow their children to do this at home, or at a friend's house? People just think b/c they are paying for a meal, they can do whatever they want.

I understand kids make messes, and as a server I usually don't get mad. But when food is flying at other tables and lands 5 feet away from where they are sitting, that's extreme.

I HATE when parents just allow their children to pour out the salt and pepper shakers all over the table.

As a server I have asked myself the same question every time I am scrapping pasta off the floor or bisseling up crunched crackers. The only answer I have is that they are eating out. So they don't worry about a mess that they usually would at home because they are taking a break. They may also not want to cause a scene by trying to discipline their children in public. The part that sucks the most is when they don't tip you any extra for cleaning up their kid's mess.

Setting Limits with your Strong-Willed Child is
what is needed. it takes disciplining them. It
is hard and often parents are embarrassed to try
in public as the child may get worse, they may
lose control and be reported for child abuse
(hitting the child.. etc...) these children need
repeated correcting and self denial of things
to learn that they cannot always have their way.

Maybe an empty plastic plate may do it. But then
again maybe some diversionary activity, ie;
coloring crayons Note pad at the table ..? There
is a need for acknowledgment of the difficulty
in disciplining these children. See The notes
by Dr. James Dobson. He assures us that not all
children are strong willed- Thank God.

I wonder that myself. Parents ignore their kids in restaurants and we get to hear the noise and the food all over us. I always ask to sit in a quiet place away from babies and kids. I love kids but it's not right that we can't have a nice dinner without interruption.
