I want to breastfeed my son when he is born. I wasn't able to breastfeed my daughter because of so many complications but I really don't know anything about it. I'm looking for a book that talks about everything regarding breastmilk from breastfeeding to storage of the milk to how to heat it and everything. Anyone know?

With both mine, I got a free book at the hospital - called the Motherly Art of Breastfeeding. It was ok, learned a tons more from the website kellymom.com.

WIC is a great resource if you have it. I love The Breastfeeding Book by Martha Sears. It's very encouraging. The Womanly Art is a great book, but it is harder to read and it is really preachy. The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers by Jack Newman and Teresa Pittman is very thorough and well-organized so you can find what you need quickly. Congratulations on choosing to breastfeed!

Check out anything by the lacca foundation! They are a wonderful group of women who have a website, and great books devoted completley to the joys of breastfeeding. You could also try and look in your local phonebook. Look under the midwife section- or for a certified lactation consultant. sometimes these women offer free advice that you just cant get in a book! My best advice- jusst stick with it! It'll be hard at first- or even later- just dont give up- and avoid the temptation to supplement- because it can have devestating results! You'll pull through eventually- that's what mommys do- we make it work!

First of all, I want to congratulate you on trying again! Many moms don't even try the second time around if it didn't work the first time. It's wonderful that you are doing your homework now. It will pay off in the end.

You should contact your local La Leche League chapter. Expectant moms are encouraged to attend the meetings (free) to gain knowledge and support. I HIGHLY recommend getting in touch with a LLL leader so you have someone to call if you need help. You can find local chapters in their site

Martha Sears - i think its called 'The breatsfeeding book' she is a mother of 8 and her husband is a pediatrician...together they have MANY books out...but she wrote one all on breastfeeding so look out for it....Also Sheila Kitzinger 'Breastfeeding Your Baby' i THINK ....its a great resource, it has big color pictures of babies latching on (the most important thing!)
Dr. Jack Newman has a video also that may be helpful. You can go to La Leche League Meetings and just sit in as well...you learn so much by watching other mothers....Ok, one last resource...take a breastfeeding class...you can taake them at the hospital where you are having your baby...health ins. may even cover it. Good Luck!
