I'm a gay man and a lot of gay men that I know smoke. Is there a reason? Is there peer pressure within the gay community or something like that?

If you don't think you have a lot to live for or have much of value to contribute, you won't care so much about your health. Unfortunately, too many gay men (and lesbians and bisexuals, too) have been taught that. One huge thing we have to remind each other of in this community is that we are worth something and worth keeping alive.

I'm not sure there's really a link, here. I know just as many straight people as gay people who smoke. I don't think there's any correlation between smoking and sexual orientation. most of my gay/lesbian friends don't smoke (my partner and I don't...although I used to in my teens and 20s...I quit many years ago). I saw lots of "peer pressure" among kids growing up...it was supposedly "cool." that's probably why I tried it, and did smoke for a while...but it had nothing to do with being lesbian.
