I am from Texas, and I have two daughters. I would definitely have voted against the law requiring 6th grade girls to have this vaccine. However, I was not asked, Rick Perry just jumped in and forced this law on us. Do you think it is right for him to have done so? I worry about the drugs possible side effects. I know that it can possibly prevent H.P.V. and therefore lessen chances of cervical cancer, but I have fears about the bad effects that they learn about years after forcing us to take this risk with our daughters health. What do you think? I am afraid that they could cause problems with fertility since they are dealing in the reproductive organs. I know they have been tested by the F.D.A., but so was Phen Phen, and heaven only knows how many other harmful drugs. Why take the chance, why not just teach the girls abstinence as the H.P.V. is sexually transmitted?

Well, you don't have a vote in all the other vaccines your child is required to take. If you don't get them immunized, they just can't attend public schools.

It is amazing that no one is reporting that any parent can deny the vaccine for religious reasons, and their child will still be allowed to go to school. They will just be warned of the effects of HPV, and why they want the child vaccinated.

I don't know how I feel about it, but my oldest is 4, so hopefully it will all be worked out before she is old enough for the vaccine.

I talked with my Father about the vaccine, as he is a Pharmacist. He doesn't think there will be any major complications with this vaccine. The fuss is all about the fact it will prevent s STD, and that they think these kids will take it as they can now have sex if they want to.

Had this not dealt with something sexual(at least somewhat), there wouldn't be much of a fuss made about it.

The oral polio vaccine was given for years, and it was a live vaccine. Meaning that when you were walking around, you were spreading the polio virus. My Dad said that each child was basically re-vaccinating everyone in the house that had the vaccine as a child. The problems came in the form of smaller children in the home contracting polio from the newly vaccinated child. It took years for them to figure that out, and it was widely tested before it was used.

An HPV shot does not affect the reproductive organs. It prevents against several strains of warts. Some of these can grow on the genitals, some do not. The ones that do grow in the vaginal canal can cause cancer. See, the vaccine is a weakened or dead form of the virus that prevents contracting the virus later in life that could affect this area. However, the HPV shot does not do a thing to the reproductive organs. And one can get HPV outside of vaginal sex, so you'd have to teach abstinence in its entirety, including oral, and that's unfair to put young people at risk in case they do make the "mistake" of having sex, even if protected.
