A few years ago a NASA scientist made a mistake when converting metric to imperial and because of that one of the mars' probes crashed on the red planet. If rocket scientists can be so dumb what hope is there for everyone else?

I find it dumb that people expect everyone else to be perfect all the time.

Look at it this way: if you learn 80% of what you have been taught and your students learn 80% of that, and so on, then the world HAS to be getting "dumber". However, the amount of information the world has to offer is getting larger all the time, too, so I suspect that the world is (as a whole) just as smart or smarter than it ever has been.

Don't forget: the power of the media is fed by the ignorance of humanity. That's why the world seems dumber.

I think the Mars probe accident is an example of the kind of freak error that can happen even to the smartest person or team of persons.

On the other hand, while I am not sure I would say "the whole world" is dumber, it is an unavoidable truth that education and critical thinking in the United States have suffered over the last 50 years under the attacks of conservatives who have intentionally sought to "dumb down" the minds of the American people, because "dumb" people are easier to control and manipulate, to persuade to vote for destructive candidates, and to injure themselves in a variety of other ways.

We all know the solution. It begins with us and our lives, and the first step to improving things is the step to the voting booth.

I think it is more a case of the more we know, the more we realise we don't know. Does that mean we are getting dumber? Relatively speaking, I guess it does! What you have recalled here is only one of many examples where units of measure have caused catastrophic failures. That's why "standards" are created. The problem in this case was that there were two standards and no conversion took place.

Without being too critical, it also displays to me the arrogance of certain parties to think that nothing exists outside their country!

Careful, it wasn't a NASA scientist. Everything is broken up into specific teams. For example, one section of the mission may be constructed designed and tested in different locations and different engineers. I think too many heads working on one project without proper communication is a huge cause for concern. I think the they are smart persay but their common sense is down the tubes.

no longer inevitably the international finished of idiots, yet... We use the pcs (machines), even the dummies like me. after we examine a revealed note in a e book or a guide an trouble-free human being keeps about seventy 5% of the thoughts. If we examine the video exhibit, we may be able to ought to deduct yet another 25% or so. hence, we are in a position to maintain about 50% of what we examine. The language that we use in our automated correspondence is atrocious. a lot human beings do no longer even comprehend the thanks to jot down in cursive. some can no longer examine cursive. If we write, about 60% human beings do no longer use cursive, we print if we ought to write some thing. pcs (the machines) are only about questioning for us. If we loose the skill to imagine, we can loose the skill to create. No, we are no longer turning out to be idiots. yet we are loosing individuality to an outstanding volume. we are slowly transferring to turning out to be a Borg society. (keep in recommendations the in call for human being Trek?)
