You should only drive it like that to the nearest repair shop. While this most likely won't hurt your t-case, trying to drive like this for an extended period of time will definately damage your front end. Remember, the front axle is only supposed to take a portion of the engines power when engaged, not all of it. This is a lot of strain, especially if you attempt highway speeds.Keep it under 40 km/h and get thee to a shop ASAP

I have a 96' chevy tahoe and had the same problem i broke the rear U joint i did drive it i 4wd and lit me tell you it wasn't good. i went to drive it one day and when i hit the gas it poped and stoped moving. what i done was snaped the axle in the front diff and shot the entire diff. i would highly discourage driving the car until it's fixed.

First, you need to plug up the rear of the transmission. If you just take out the shaft, all the trans fluid will leak out - not a good idea.

You could deffinatley drive it for a while that way but I would fix it asap. it will not break anything as long as your front axle joints and all are already in good shape. but if 4x4 not used often they tend to rust and seaze in the axle ujoints and if thats the case you could were out a axle joint.
